The new song in my life......

is from an album called 'Ustad & the Divas' and yep you guessed it - the song's called 'Leja Leja' . It melodius, sung beautifully and the Ustad's voice gives it just the right folksy touch . The video is really cute too .....go watch it !

The last time a song gave me butterflies in my stomach and a goof ball grin on my face was when Piya Basanti was released. Infact i find it one of the most underrated albums of all times. Thanks to the video , everyone hummed 'piya basanti' - the title track, but what most ppl didn't do was go beyond that one song, maybe some of us heard 'Surmayi Aankhen' - do that and you realize that the album has some incredibly beautiful tunes . Check out 'Koi Pyar se mujhe' and 'Shaam Dhaale' from the same album. Incredibly versatile music to suit your every mood!

Movie Review - Blood Diamond

Blood Diamond - watch it for some solid acting by not just Leo DiCaprio but the rest of the cast as well. What i personally found most engaging about this movie on war torn Sierra Leone and the conflict diamonds was the completeness of the script - it spans just about every angle of the issue , right from civil war, to the child soldiers to the refugee camp to the world community and forums , the unscrupulous diamond cartels and their control over supply , the diamond smugglers, the reporters, its all there. No piece of the puzzle is missing in this one !

Another high engagement factor is the narrative and the way the movie unfolds - it communicates a profound sense of unease and discomfort with the 'african sitiation' without overt focus or overtly emotive appeals about the plight of millions who have been uprooted from their homes and have lost lives and loved ones for something that really is ultimately just a stone . The movie never diverts from it's main focus - to tell the story of a fisherman and his family. The events are a backdrop, the children, the hunger, the blood and violence, the greed - they all serve as a rich backdrop to the quest of one man to reunite his family.

And the past few weeks

After the viral have been quite hectic..... catching up with work and all the fun that i missed out on including regular workouts in the gym........ have finally started the 'eat less and eat healthy' phase of my own arbit diet plan and supplemented it with regular workouts . we should see some results in the next coyple of months i hope ...

So what else is new - hmmmmm lets see - i read David Davidar's 'House of Blue Mangoes' . I don't read indian authors much but this was quite a good book . the best part about davidar's prose is that he manages to strike the fine balance between being too prosaic and being overtly lyrical. so, the narrative is crisp yet detailed in the right manner and actually encourages the reader to visualize each moment in the book. The book primarily deals with the lives and times of the Dorais - the principal family in themythical town of Chevathar, in the backdrop of caste issues and violence.

Now this indeed was an eye opener for me since hitherto i had always assumed that caste based politics was the exclusive domain of the north and bihar belt. then i did some digging after i read the book and figured that the south has it's own issues as well! We indians are major racists in our own way , we don't go the 'gora vs. darkie' route ...... we just discriminate among our own people based on a some societal structure created aeons ago and outdated beyond repair . And then, we are properly outraged when an indian abroad is insulted on racist lines. I mean when will we learn that we need to clean our own backyard first before we even ask the world to respect us as indians.

Reflections from watching too much of FRIENDS

1. Ross is a mean mean mean guy. He whines, he can't stand a difference of opinion and omigosh he is such a BORE! I mean yeah well he was cute but then again the personality is a just a turnoff! Boo to the Dinosaurs!

2. Most of Chandler's jokes are actually funny and yes i would definitely date the guy he is cute and has a wicked sense of humor.

3.if i had to pick between Monica and Ross, i'd pick Monica - she's a control freak yes but atleast she doesn't BORE people.

4. Never lie to your friends ..... and these guys do it all the time, i mean if you don't like something, there's a nice polite way to say it but these guys lie . And the reason why you shouldn't lie to your friends is becausea) they will know you're lyingb) you have to wear blue lipstick and say ' i'm a pretty girl' which is ok for a girl (the latter part, the blue lipstick is a strict no no ) but if you're a guy, well then that makes you Chandler!

5. Joey Tribbiani can EAT and if you look beyond the pretty face, you'll realize that he's got a FAT ASS! But i'd still fall for the 'Hey How're you doin!'

6. I'm the biggest fool on earth right now coz
a) i watched some 60 odd episodes of friends in the past few days
b) i'm actually writing about stuff that doesn't matter anyways since the series ended like 2 years back. omigosh, i'm 'G'ROSS!

7. I hate Brad Pitt for breaking up with Jen. Period.

8. Phoebe's songs actually make sense (That could also be because i'm high on all the antibiotics pumped into me !)

I hate this fever!

I'm still in bed and i don't think i'll make it to work tomorrow ...... never thought i'd say this but i really really miss my work now! Am sick and tired of being sick and tired......... have watched endless episodes of FRIENDS, drunk endless cups of soup and am a little too upset at having to lie in bed all day long with nothing else to do but watch FRIENDS and drink soup. BAH!

More Reflections

Yeah!

You do a lot of this (blogging, what else!) when you're ill and in bed with a cold ....... as opposed to being in bed with someone a lot more exciting than a cold. So it's official now that i have been to a doctor who by the way was so sympathetic about the sore throat, runny nose et al that he made it almost worth my while to fall ill. Well yes it is a severe throat infection and viral fever that ails yours truly and one more day in the lonely bed is definitely in the cards. Speaking of which, just remembered havn't touched the cards since the new year began - does this mean the end of my career as a tarot reader. Hope not coz the cards can be tons of fun apart from all the cool stuff you find out some of which can be pretty sad at times.

Anyways what is it with sore painful tonsils and the voice related compliments coz yes once again someone told me they definitely liked my voice even more than when i didn't have the throat infection. Which just goes on to show just how silly people can be - i mean DUH! Dude i definitely didn't invite the infection just so i could have a sexier than normal voice nor does the compliment make it any easier for me to live with the pain. Ok cut it out i am flattered and no that doesn't mean you can replace the cold in my bed ;)

So for another day it's me and soup and endless episodes of FRIENDS on the laptop........ and well everyone who reads could comment and cheer me up. That and the fat fish that's swimming in the aquarium in my room........ another day of inactivity and no calorie burning activity (damn i'm beginning to sound obsessed now!).

Reflections from a sick (wo)man's bed

It's crazy but when you're sick, all you crave for is stuff that you're not supposed to even look at . Am off from work for a couple of days since have a sore throat, runny nose and temperature (y'know, the works !) and all i really really want right now is
1. A large strawberry milkshake
2. A chocobar/feast/ any icecream on a stick that has vanilla wrapped in a chocolate cover
3. A snowcone
4. Cheesecake - now that's something i can actually have without adverse effects on the already 'ill' ill health.

And all this when i'm trying to also lose some of these unwanted pounds (not money dude! i'm talking calories).

Teach me to 'uncrave' dear god and while you're at it, a few extra 'pounds' in my wallet won't hurt either.
